Mission Commitment

Gaun Yersel’ Workshop is a Scottish workshop hub for actors, by actors.  It aims to nurture & support actors with their craft, after training. We commit to upholding our mission and ensuring all our activities align with our core values of inclusivity, respect, & community.

Community

This community will exist for professional performers (working actors with spotlight credits or an HNC level qualification or above). People in our community will be at different points of experience and process, but all will be committed to this as their line of work and willing to learn from and with one another.

We are building a community, which allows our contact with performers to be holistic, caring and without industry pressures. We acknowledge the mental health strains and financial pitfalls of this line of work and will aim to foster a community network where actors support one another creatively.

Working Space

This is a community built on respect for each other’s creative practices and journeys, but also a respect of each other’s personhood including gender identity, race, religion and sexualities. This means that in coming to our workshops you are agreeing to not lead with assumptions about any individual’s life experiences, circumstances and identity.

This will be an explicitly LGBTQ+ friendly space and as such by attending our workshops you agree to the use of the self declared pronouns of any other workshop participants, even if you don’t want to declare these for yourself. We expect an attitude of good will and respect in this area, and all areas listed above, and that if there is any accidental misgendering, that will be acknowledged and corrected calmly and with an attitude of good will towards one another.

We will run Gaun Yersel’ as not only a Safe Space, but a Brave Space. We will invite challenge and risk-taking creatively for participants if they consent to it. This is in regards to the work and craft rather than anything about an individual’s identity or well-being.

All participants at any point can say no to an exercise or activity. They will be checked in with by a facilitator, but not ‘checked up on’ in terms of owing an explanation. We work on the belief that if you can’t actually say no to things creatively, you can’t authentically say yes to things creatively.

Ethical Practices

We conduct all our activities with the highest ethical standards, transparency and accountability. We manage our resources responsibly and ensure that all donations are used effectively for the betterment of our community.

Privacy and Confidentially

We respect the privacy of our participants & collaborators. Personal information is handled confidentially and used only for the purpose it was collected for.

Anti-Discrimination Policy

Discrimination of any kind, including but not limited to protected characteristics as per the Equality Act 2010, will not be tolerated within our organisation.

Conflict of Interest

All employees & volunteers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest. We ensure that decisions are made solely based on the best interests of our community.

**Workshop hosts are required to adhere to the guidelines established by the Casting Directors Guild (the CDG). This ensures consistency, professionalism, and fairness in the execution of the workshops, and cements the educational aspect of the workshop to attendees.
